J-1 Scholars

ISSS will accept only complete applications for the benefits below. 

 

4 Business Days:

  • Certification Signatures on DS-2019 for travel
  • Edits to DS-2019
    • Name change
    • Adding J-2 dependents to SEVIS record
  • Re-Print of DS-2019 (due to lost or damaged documents)

5 Business Days:

  • Home Government or Other Organizations Forms
  • I-515A Processing
  • Letter of certification
    • confirm valid J-1 international scholar status
  • Transfer Eligibility Form

7 Business Days:

  • Change to J-1 Scholar Status
  • Employment Authorization for J-2 Dependents
  • Reinstatement to J-1 Scholar Status

10 Business Days:

  • Request for Form DS-2019 by University of Miami host department
    • to begin a new J-1 program
    • to extend an on-going J-1 program
    • to transfer from a different J-1 program
    • to amend a current Form DS-2019

Although your International Student and Scholar Advisor is here to assist you, it is your responsibility to maintain your immigration status. It is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the regulations that govern your status. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the loss of your student status and may subject you to deportation.
