Housing and Meal Plan

The University of Miami offers undergraduate on-campus housing in five residential colleges and University Village that is comprised of seven buildings and two parking garages.

All non-local fall first-year students are required to live in University housing for two academic semesters, as long as space is available. This policy does not apply to first-year students living with parents or legal guardians in Miami-Dade or Broward counties. Historically, the University has been able to accommodate all those incoming first-year fall students who apply by the fall housing priority deadline of May 15. Incoming first-year fall students who apply after the fall housing priority deadline will be added to a housing waitlist. Housing beyond the first-year is not guaranteed.

First-year students admitted for the spring semester can apply for housing using the spring-only housing application available in CaneLink beginning on November 1.The deadline to apply for spring housing is December 1. Note, on-campus housing is neither required nor guaranteed for spring admitted first-year students. You may choose to submit an on-campus housing application and your name will automatically be added to the housing waitlist.

Please visit the Department of Housing & Residential Life website for information about the Residential Colleges, moving into your residential room, off-campus housing, and more.

All first-year students who do not plan to live on campus must submit the first-year residency requirement waiver through the Housing Portal. This waiver process would apply in situations where a first-year student:

  •     lives with their parents or a legal guardian in Miami-Dade or Broward County
  •     has been out of high school for more than one calendar year
  •     is married and/or has dependent children
  •     for disciplinary or administrative reasons, has been denied the privilege of living on campus
